Privacy policy

Last updated 9 September 2026

This policy explains what information Sleep Gem collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Sleep Gem mobile app for iOS and Android and to this website, both operated by Hyperdrive Technologies Pte. Ltd. (“we”, “us”), a company registered in Singapore. Questions and requests go to hello@sleepgem.app.

The short version: we collect what is needed to give you sleep guidance and to run the service, we never sell your data, and there are no ads. In guest mode your babies and logs stay on your phone, though usage analytics still reach us. You can delete your account from inside the app; the section on retention and deletion says exactly what that removes and how to have any remaining records erased.

Information we collect

Information you enter

  • Account details. If you create an account: your email address and a password, plus your name, date of birth and role (for example mother, father or caregiver), which the app asks for when you introduce yourself. Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google); we never see or store your password in readable form.
  • Baby profile. The name or nickname, date of birth, and optionally the due date and sex of each baby you add, plus the sleep settings you choose.
  • Sleep log. The sleep, wake, put-down and pick-up times you log, notes you type, and your answers to the end-of-day questions (for example whether the baby was unwell).
  • Care log. If you use care tracking: feeds, diapers, medication, pumping, temperature, activities, and growth measurements (weight, length, head circumference) that you enter.
  • Assistant conversations. If your version of the app includes the sleep assistant and you use it: the messages you type and the replies you receive.
  • Messages you send us. The content of support emails and in-app feedback, and the address they come from.
  • Invitations. If you invite someone to view a baby: the email address you enter for them, which we store with the invitation’s status and the access it grants. The invitation email carries your name and the baby’s name.

Entries about your baby are health-related information about a child. You enter them as the child’s parent or legal guardian, or as a caregiver that parent has authorised, and we process them only to provide the service described here.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage analytics. Events such as “a nap was logged” or “a screen was opened”, together with device model, operating system version, app version, language and time zone, and derived attributes of the baby profile in use: age (calculated to the day from the date of birth and due date you entered), sex if you entered it, your sleep settings, nap count, how quickly your baby typically settles, logging counts and whether a day was marked unwell. We use Mixpanel and Firebase Analytics (Google) for this. Events carry a random installation identifier. When you are signed in they are linked to your account email, and your name, role, age and join date are kept on your analytics profile. Your baby’s name, your notes and the log entries themselves are stripped before events are sent. This applies in guest mode as well as with an account; when you sign out, the app asks the analytics tool to switch to a new anonymous identity.
  • Diagnostics. Error and performance information from our servers that helps us fix problems. The app does not currently run a crash-reporting SDK.
  • Notification tokens. Signed-in devices register a push-notification token with Firebase Cloud Messaging so the app can deliver the notifications you turn on, such as logging reminders and sharing updates.
  • Website. This website sets no cookies and runs no third-party trackers. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes IP addresses and request logs to serve and protect the site.

Guest mode

You can use Sleep Gem without an account. In guest mode your babies and logs are stored only on your device and are uploaded to our servers only if you later create an account and choose to keep them. Usage analytics, including the derived baby attributes described above, are still collected while you use the app.

How we use information

  • To provide the service: store your log, sync it across your devices, and compute sleep guidance for your baby.
  • To send reminders and notifications you turn on, and to send invitations you ask us to send to other people.
  • To answer your questions and support requests.
  • To understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
  • To improve the guidance. We analyse logs in aggregate to make the timing engine more accurate for everyone. Results of this research are statistical and never identify you or your baby.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

Where the law requires a legal basis (for example in the EEA or the UK), we rely on the performance of our contract with you, your consent where we ask for it (such as for notifications), and our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the service.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information and we do not show advertising. We share information only:

  • With people you choose. If you invite someone to view a baby, they can see that baby’s sleep log, care log and growth records (read-only) until you revoke access. If you share your account login with a partner or caregiver, they can see and edit everything in the account.
  • With service providers that process data for us: Google Firebase (hosting, database, authentication, analytics and push notifications), Mixpanel (usage analytics), Cloudflare (hosting this website, forwarding email sent to our support address and, for some accounts, relaying the encrypted monitor stream), an email delivery provider (for invitation emails and the feedback you send us from the app), Anthropic (the sleep assistant, see below) and, only if you opt in to cloud presence detection, Google and OpenAI (see the camera section). These providers act on our instructions. The AI providers among them (Anthropic; Google and OpenAI for presence detection) do not use what we send them to train their models.
  • When required by law or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or ourselves.
  • In a business transfer, in which case this policy continues to apply to your data.

The sleep assistant

If your version of the app includes the sleep assistant and you use it, each message you send, together with the relevant parts of your baby’s log and settings, is sent to Anthropic to generate the reply; Anthropic does not use it to train its models. Your messages and the replies are stored with your account so the conversation can continue, the assistant may save short notes about your baby that it refers back to, and we keep an audit record of each exchange for 90 days so we can check the assistant’s behaviour. Once our daily clean-up detects that the baby it concerns was removed or that your access to that baby ended, the conversation is marked for deletion and removed by a later clean-up run once at least 30 days have passed, or sooner once the account itself has been deleted.

Camera monitor features

Live monitor. When you use one phone as a camera and another as a viewer, the video and audio stream between your own devices, encrypted. To find a route between them, each device first contacts Google’s public STUN service, which sees the devices’ network addresses but never the stream; for some accounts, when a direct connection is not possible, the stream may be relayed through Cloudflare’s network. Sleep Gem does not receive, record or store that stream.

Compatible Wi‑Fi cameras. If you connect a camera of your own (ONVIF/RTSP), the app talks to it over your local network using the camera’s own protocols, which may be unencrypted. Use these cameras on a home network you trust.

Reporting a wrong detection. If the app’s on-device detection gets something wrong, you can tell us from the app. Choosing Share sends us the snapshot in question together with the detection details (such as what was detected and when, the detector’s score, the cot area you marked, and the baby’s name, camera model and app version where available) so we can improve detection. Choosing Don’t share sends the report and the available detection details, never the image. Detection details from automatic logging are marked to expire after 90 days and are removed with account deletion; shared snapshots and other reports are kept until you ask us to erase them.

Cloud presence detection (optional, off by default). If you turn this on, cropped snapshots of the cot area are sent through Sleep Gem to Google, and to OpenAI as a backup, to check whether your baby is in the cot. Those providers may keep a snapshot briefly for safety monitoring and do not use it to train their models. Sleep Gem keeps the snapshots for up to about three years to train and improve its own detection model. This is a single consent covering both the processing and that retention, given by you as the child’s parent or guardian. Turning the feature off stops new snapshots but does not remove the ones already collected; deleting your account asks our systems to erase them, and Retention and deletion below explains how to have anything the automatic clean-up missed erased on request.

Retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account from within the app (Account → Delete account) permanently removes your login, unlinks your babies from the account and removes your notification tokens, and asks our systems to revoke any viewer access you granted and to erase any cloud-detection snapshots. The log and care records that were linked to the account, analytics events already recorded and any wrong-detection reports you sent us may remain after that. To have them, and anything the automatic clean-up missed, erased as well, email us from the address you registered with; we will erase them within 30 days and confirm. Assistant conversations are marked for deletion when our daily clean-up detects that access ended and removed by a later run once at least 30 days have passed (sooner once the account itself has been deleted); their audit records expire after 90 days. We may keep aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot be linked back to you.

Children

Sleep Gem is a tool for parents and caregivers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account. We collect information about babies and children only as entered by a parent or legal guardian, or by a caregiver that parent has authorised, for the family’s own use.

Security

Data between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure that encrypts data at rest. The live monitor stream is encrypted between your devices. Traffic between the app and a Wi‑Fi camera of your own uses that camera’s protocols on your local network and may not be encrypted. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will notify you as required by law.

International transfers

We are based in Singapore and our service providers may store or process data in other countries, including the United States. Where required, we rely on the providers’ standard contractual protections for such transfers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can see and edit your logs in the app at any time and delete your account from the app; erasure of the records that remain afterwards is done on request, as described above. For anything else, email hello@sleepgem.app and we will respond within the time the law allows. Residents of Singapore may also contact the Personal Data Protection Commission; residents of the EEA or UK may contact their local supervisory authority.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we will post the new version here, update the date at the top, and, where appropriate, tell you in the app before the changes take effect.
